ABB CM579-PNIO Communication Module

Description

The ABB CM579-PNIO Communication Module is a PROFINET real-time Ethernet communication module designed for integration with the ABB AC500 series PLC systems. It supports high-speed counting up to 50kHz, and enables analog channels on PM564 and PM566 CPUs to be configured as digital inputs for flexible I/O adaptation. Key data handling features include direct storage of MODBUS data in internal memory, streamlining data management processes.

This module offers versatile communication options: its integrated COM1 (RS485) port supports program download, MODBUS RTU/ASCII communication, and CS31 master station for remote I/O expansion, with an optional COM2 (RS485) port providing identical functionality. The Ethernet interface supports program download and multiple protocols including SNTP client, DHCP, UDP, Modbus TCP, HTTP, and FTP. When paired with Ethernet-integrated CPUs, it enables additional network functions such as Web server, FTP server, and SNTP; PM556 and PM566 CPUs can also send emails via an SMTP client. Programming follows the IEC61131-3 standard, allowing quick setup and code development in the Automation Builder engineering environment.
