ABB CM5640-2ETH Communication Module
Description
The ABB CM5640-2ETH Communication Module is a dedicated port expansion unit designed for AC500 V3 CPUs, providing 2 additional Ethernet interfaces controlled directly by the host CPU. As an extension of the CPU’s onboard Ethernet port, it supports all identical functions as the native interface, with Ethernet limitations applying uniformly to all onboard cards and additional interfaces. Configuration for this module is enabled starting with ABB Ability Automation Builder V2.6.0, with its interfaces recognized as extra onboard Ethernet ports of the connected AC500 V3 CPU.
Powered via the backplane bus, the module requires no external power supply, featuring a compact design that fits into the expansion slots of AC500 PLC systems. It offers robust environmental adaptability, with an operating temperature range of 0 degrees Celsius to 60 degrees Celsius, a storage temperature range of -40 degrees Celsius to 85 degrees Celsius, and an IP20 protection rating for cabinet-mounted installations.
Ideal for industrial automation applications, the module extends PLC communication capabilities to connect with devices such as HMIs, sensors, and frequency converters, supporting tasks like cross-device data exchange, system integration, and complex control network building to meet the demands of multi-device connectivity in automated production environments.
