ABB DAO01 Analog Output Module
Description
The ABB DAO01 Analog Output Module, also known as a D/A module, is a PLC-compatible component designed to convert digital signals from a PLC’s CPU into analog signals (voltage or current) usable by external industrial equipment. As a typical analog output module, it accepts digital input signals, commonly 12-bit binary numbers, where higher bit count corresponds to higher signal resolution for more precise control.
This module supports two primary standard analog output signal types: voltage output and current output. Voltage output typically ranges from 0-10V, with wiring requiring the module’s negative terminal connected to the controlled device’s ground and the positive terminal connected to the device’s input. Current output typically ranges from 4-20mA, with wiring requiring the module’s positive terminal connected to the device’s input and the negative terminal connected to ground. Its output range can be adjusted via software or hardware, depending on configuration, and must be matched to the input range of connected equipment for optimal performance.
Common application scenarios include sending continuous control signals to industrial actuators such as control valves, electric valves, damper actuators, and frequency converters, enabling precise regulation of processes like temperature, pressure, flow, and speed in automated industrial systems.
