ABB NPBA-12 Profibus Adapter Module
Description
The ABB NPBA-12 Profibus Adapter Module is a communication adapter designed to connect frequency converters to the PROFIBUS-DP fieldbus network. It supports bidirectional communication between ABB frequency converters and devices like PLCs and HMIs via core protocol conversion functionality, translating ABB frequency converter data formats to PROFIBUS-DP protocol while also supporting multiple input and output protocols including PROFIBUS-DP (master/slave), Modbus RTU (master/slave), DeviceNet (slave), EtherNet/IP (Scanner/Adapter), PROFINET IO (Controller/Device), and Modbus TCP (Client/Server).
Key performance features include periodic data exchange for real-time synchronization of data such as control words, set values, status words, and actual values between the frequency converter and master station, with short refresh cycles: less than 1ms for PROFINET IO mode and less than 2ms for EtherNet/IP mode. As a PROFIBUS-DP slave device, it enables network expansion, supporting up to 32 slave nodes (including frequency converters and I/O devices) per master station for multi-converter coordinated control. It also offers redundant configuration support, including fiber optic redundant ring networks, and allows hot-swap seamless switching with dual modules for critical applications.
Technical specifications include adjustable PROFIBUS-DP transmission rates from 9.6kbps to 12Mbps, with corresponding communication distances from 1000 meters to 100 meters, plus 100Mbps full-duplex rates for EtherNet/IP and PROFINET. It supports both PROFIBUS DP (Decentralized Peripherals) and PROFIBUS PA (Process Automation) communication modes.
