REA101 ABB Arc Protection Relay for Medium
Description
REA101 ABB Arc Protection Relay is a main module of the REA arc fault protection system, designed for reliable, fast arc fault mitigation in air-insulated low and medium voltage switchgear. It can operate independently or be combined with other REA series modules for expanded protection coverage.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Fault Response Time | Less than 2.5 milliseconds |
| Maximum Expansion Modules per RJ45 Port | 5 |
| Overcurrent Monitoring | Adjustable three-phase overcurrent or two-phase plus neutral overcurrent |
| Output Types | 2 high-speed IGBT outputs, 1 heavy-duty relay output (TRIP3) |
Key Features:
- Built-in self-test system monitors operating voltage, wiring integrity between main and expansion modules, and fiber optic connections, with alarm and module locking for faults
- Uses loop, radial fiber optic sensors, or lens sensors for reliable arc light detection, eliminating false trips from non-arc light sources like camera flashes
- Two optoelectronic connectors enable fast long-distance transmission of light, current, and trip signals between main modules
- Supports selective tripping schemes via the REA105 expansion module
Applications:
- Air-insulated low and medium voltage switchgear in power plants and substations
- Industrial facility electrical systems to protect equipment and personnel from arc fault hazards
- Retrofit for older switchgear to upgrade safety and reduce asset loss
